We've been on an eBay/Internet shopping spree collecting missing or replacement parts that we know we will need, or even additional parts to enhance the car. Some of these are really difficult to find, but if you wait long enough eventually they come up on eBay
When the interior light was removed it basically fell apart and the shade also broke. I was advised that these are quite rare to find, especially with the on/off switch. It turns out they were also used in the Triumph 2500 estate car. After advertising on the Jensen Parts Wanted forum, I was offered the light on the right. Unfortunately the shade has a small star crack in it. Later I also found the light on the left for sale at Rimmer Bros, a Triumph parts specialist. It is quite grubby, but I may be able to clean it up. Now I have 2 ! |
The overdrive switch we have fitted is clearly non-standard. After a bit of research on the Jensen forum it seems Jensen used a Hella switch as used in Isetta bubble cars ! I found this (in fact I have 2) on eBay. However, after a bit more research I think that these were only used from the 541 deluxe onwards. As our car is earlier than that, it looks like the overdrive switch was a simple pull on push off Lucas switch. We'll make the final choice which way we go when we start building the dashboard, but my gut feel is to go with the Lucas switch rather than this one as that is what the car would have had fitted at the factory. |
We have decided to put a clock on the dashboard, probably where the ash tray currently is. I have managed to source 2 different Jaeger clocks, so now we need to decide which one to use. The one on the left has the same full V bezel, whereas the one on the right has possibly a better number font which better matches the other dials. We'll decide later. |
We have the 541 logo on the front air flap, but some cars also have a 541 chrome logo on the boot - ours doesn't. We both like the look with the logo on the boot, so when this very corroded original 541 logo appeared on eBay I had to have it. Again, it wasn't cheap, but as all the chrome parts for the 541 are rarer than hens teeth I made sure I put a huge maximum bid in. When the rest of the parts go off for re-chroming, this will be going too. |
